Programs and resources identified on this page are designed and identified to provide gender-specific support for underrepresented males at Texas State through interactive workshops, mentoring and development.  In addition, they specifically address issues facing underrepresented males on the Texas State campus in order to positively impact their retention, academic success and chances for degree completion.

  • Advocates for Family Peace: Intervention Program for Men and Fathers | A community based program created for intervention in cases involving domestic violence. The program is made up of twenty eight group sessions which examine men’s use of violence and the impact the violence has on themselves, their partners, and their children.  The group process provides men an opportunity to critically examine their actions, reflect on possible changes, and take informed actions to live a life free from violence.

    Boys to Men | To reduce interpersonal violence by ofference programs that support the healthy development of adolescent boys, provide assistance and education resources to boys and those who help raise them, and increase community awareness about the specific needs of boys.

    Hays-Caldwell Women's Center: Prevention Education Programs | The Prevention Education Program is a comprehensive program which focuses on the prevention of sexual violence and/or sexual assault.  This program collaborates with community members, professionals and organizations to address the root causes of violence in order to prevent violence before it occurs.  The Prevention Education Program also works within the schools facilitating presentations and groups that focus on addressing some of the risk factors that lead to violence.

    House Devil, Street Angel: A film about fathers & sons confronting abuse | Two nonprofit partners. The role of the project’s nonprofit partners is to help with outreach, fundraising and distribution of film. Because this film will be useful in classrooms and in anti-domestic violence or fatherhood workshops, for example, nonprofit partners serve a key role in helping the film to change lives.

    Men Against Violence | MAV seeks to break the link which exists between traditional norms of masculinity-the ways men are taught to behave-and violence. It challenges young men to redefine male and female relationships in an equitable manner; to resolve conflicts effectively; to develop meaningful friendships with other men; and to appropriately manage anger and fear. ***Texas State***

    Men Can Stop Rape | A national Washington, DC based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Since our inception in 1997, MCSR has led the call to redefine masculinity and male strength as part of preventing men’s violence against women.

    Men Stopping Violence | Works locally, nationally, and internationally to dismantle belief systems, social structures, and institutional practices that oppress women and children and dehumanize men themselves. We look to the violence against women’s movement to keep the reality of the problem and the vision of the solution before us. We believe that all forms of oppression are interconnected. Social justice work in the areas of race, class, gender, age, and sexual orientation are all critical to ending violence against women.

    To Become A Teacher  | was built by a collaborative team of educational and career experts who focus their efforts on providing students of all levels with factual resources that will help them navigate the educational and career hurdles required to achieve their professional goals. This website was developed with the future and existing teacher in mind – to be a hub of educational and career tips and advice from fellow teachers and career guidance experts who have traveled on this journey themselves.

Across the United States and Internationally, 100 Black Men of America, Inc. and 100 Black Men International are positively impacting the lives of tomorrow’s leaders through the 100’s signature programs such as Mentoring the 100 Way and Collegiate 100®.

    Art of Manliness | The Art of Manliness is authored by husband and wife team, Brett and Kate McKay. It features articles on helping men be better husbands, better fathers, and better men. In our search to uncover the lost art of manliness, we’ll look to the past to find examples of manliness in action. We’ll analyze the lives of great men who knew what it meant to “man up” and hopefully learn from them.

    Big Brothers Big Sisters | The nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.

    Boys to Men: Mentoring Today's Youth | Boys to Men developed a experiential 24-hour mentor training to provide mentors with the skills they need listen, accept, admire, and respond to the young men they are Mentoring.

    Computing Alliance of Hispanic-Service Institutions | CAHSI is building a comprehensive framework for mentorship throughout the pipeline that began in the first phase of the project. This extension enhances those efforts by focusing on student development and advocacy via peer-to-peer and faculty interactions.
