Election Task Force

Election Task Force

As we move toward this season, Texas State University, as a community committed to open and respectful dialogue, will prepare for the intense debate that typically accompanies Presidential elections.  To prepare, TXST established the 2020 Elections Task Force, chaired by Dr. Sherri Benn, Assistant Vice President for Institutional Inclusive Excellence -  Student Initiatives.

The purpose of the 2020 Elections Task Force is to develop an action plan that will proactively prepare the Texas State community for the elections and promote constructive interactions throughout the election season.  Task Force considerations include, but are not limited to:

  • Processing lessons learned from the 2016 elections
  • Engaging in respectful discourse
  • Keeping community members safe during campaigning and voting activities, particularly in reference to COVID-19 and white supremacist groups
  • Promoting inclusion and contending with bias
  • Promoting voting and civic engagement
  • Preventing voter suppression
  • Addressing political speech concerns (free speech)
  • Preparing for polarization and student activism
  • Preparing for election night and post-election processing
