LGBTQIA+ Persons and Allies Resources

Show'em State Ally
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual and aromantic (LGBTQIA+) students, staff and faculty are valued and affirmed members of Texas State.  As an underrepresented community, LGBTQIA+ persons contribute to and participate in the diversity of Texas State University.

Since 2000, Texas State has created and established programs to promote awareness about sexual and gender identities through education and training. Our belief is that LGBTQIA+ persons excel as members of Texas State when their full identities are included and affirmed.  Information on this page is provided with the intention of promoting visible support, increasing safe spaces, challenging oppression (homophobia, transphobia and heterosexism), and improving the knowledge and understanding of Texas State Allies.

Queer Students and Allies Coordinating Council (QSACC)

The Queer Students Coordinating Council (QSACC) offers guidance, insight and advice to SDI regarding programs and services for the LGBTQIA+ Texas State community.  Additionally, QSACC also helps to coordinate and plan programs and services sponsored by the SDI office.  QSACC is comprised of students who represent the university, graduate divisions, and professional schools.  The purpose of QSACC is to:

  • Create awareness of important issues related to diversity and inclusion to the SDI office with a focus on LGBTQIA+ awareness and education.
  • Develop new ways to engage and support students
  • In consultation with the coordinator of LGBTQIA+ programs, communicate with the university leadership when needed or approprirate and promote collaboration.

Safe Office Placard

Safe Office Program

The Safe Office Program is a collaborative effort between the Office of Student Diversity & Inclusion and Alliance of Texas State.

Offices and departments that are designated as a Safe Office ensure that Texas State LGBTQIA+ students are supported and affirmed by providing inclusive and timely assistance and resources with their academic and personal needs.  A Safe Office is a place where 75% or more of all full-time (FTE) have completed the four hour Allies Training.  See below for more information.

Trainings to become an Ally of Texas State

Ally of Texas State

Allies of Texas State is a personal pledge made campus-wide. Those who make this pledge aim to make Texas State a more inclusive and affirming campus for the LGBTQIA+ community by promoting awareness and understanding about sexual and gender identities, homophobia and heterosexism. The pledge begins by attending a four (4) hour Allies of Texas State Training.

While the Allies Trainings do not prepare participants to counsel LGBTQIA+ individuals, it does however, provide participants with information and resources that will help eliminate myths, misconceptions and stereotypes often associated with LGBTQIA+ community. Any person who attends an Allies Training and signs and adheres to the Ally contract automatically becomes an Official Ally of Texas State. By becoming an official ally, you are part of a campus-wide network that helps sustain Texas State as a safe place for LGBTQIA+ Bobcats.

It can be empowering to join with others to discuss the impact that your sexual, romantic, and/or gender identities have on crucial aspects of your life. This group will allow members to share life experiences, examine issues related to LGBTQIA+ identity, explore and define personal identity, improve relationships with others, and be part of an inclusive and supportive environment.
