Constitution of Lambda of Texas State

Article I

Lambda of Texas State, also known as Lambda, shall be the official name for the organization.

Article II. Purpose

The purpose of Lambda at Texas State is to provide social, political and educational support and services to its members and to heighten the awareness in the community of the needs of its members.

Article III. Membership

Membership in the organization is open to all current students, faculty and staff of Texas State University.

Membership will not be denied to any person on the basis of race, color, creed, national origin, sex, age, religion or sexual orientation.

Article IV. Officers

There shall be a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Historian.

Officers will hold a calendar year term, starting on the first day of summer and ending on the last day of the spring semester.

Article V. Requirements to be an Officer

Only members who are attending Texas State University and have given their consent shall be eligible to hold office.

All officers must have been dues paying members of the organization for at least one long semester before holding office.

Officers of this organization must have a minimum GPA of 2.25.

Article VI. Election of Officers

Nominations for officers will begin a month before the last regular meeting of the spring semester. The election of officers will be held at the last regular meeting of the semester and decided by a simple majority.

Article VII. Duties of Officers

President:

            -Perform as the executive head of the organization

            -Preside over Lambda meetings

            -Power to call special meetings when the Lambda Executive Board deems necessary

            -Oversee that officers are performing duties faithfully, accurately and promptly

            -Enforce strict observance of organization policies

            -Power to appoint qualified member to any officer position that has been left vacant

            -Ability to create any officer or committee position not provided for by Lambda Constitution with the consensus of Lambda Executive board by majority vote

            -Required to not hold any other organization presidency position

            -Serve as liaison between office of Multicultural Student Affairs and Lambda

            -Further powers and responsibilities as set forth by Lambda’s Texas State Advisor

 Vice-President:

            -Assist the President in his/her duties

            -In the event that the President is unable to fulfill his/her duties, the Vice-President shall assume the responsibilities of the President

            -Have power to appoint a qualified member to head committees created by the president

            -Shall call all meetings to order

            -Further powers and responsibilities as set forth by Lambda’s Texas State advisor

 Secretary:

            -Keep accurate and complete minutes of the organization

            -Keep detailed record of attendance

            -Keep contact list up to date and accurate

            -Further powers and responsibilities as set forth by Lambda’s Texas State advisor

 Treasurer:

            -Properly keep an accurate and complete account of all moneys received and expended

            -Make expenditures upon the authorization of Lambda’s Texas State advisor

            -Accounting records are open to inspection and examination by any member upon request

            -Responsible for collection of dues

            -Deposit all money in name of organization and in timely manner

            -Work with the Executive Board in setting a budget for each semester

            -Further powers and responsibilities as set forth by Lambda’s Texas State advisor

 Historian:

            -Create and maintain a scrapbook highlighting the organizations activities for the year

            -Responsible for taking pictures at all Lambda functions

            -Responsible for maintenance of organizations social media outlets

            -Further powers and responsibilities as set forth by Lambda’s Texas State advisor

Article VIII. The Executive Board

The Executive Board shall consist of all of Lambda’s officers.

The Executive Board shall be responsible for the general operations of the organization and shall have the power to appoint and remove representatives of the organization.

This board shall meet with no exceptions once a week before regular meetings.

Article IX. Removal of officers, Committee Heads and Members

An officer or committee head who fails to fulfill their duties or who is not representing the organization as outlined by the constitution may be removed from office.

Any member including officers and committee heads may be removed from the organization for behaving in a manner incongruent with the mission and values of the organization or for violating any rules and regulations of Texas State University.

If a concern arises regarding the actions of an officer, committee head or member, then the process shall be as follows:

1)      The issue will be discussed between the Executive Board and the said individual.

2)      If the issue continues, a hearing will be held between said individual and the Executive Board as to the removal of said individual. Upon review of the matter, a recommendation of necessary actions up to and including removal of said individual. A simple majority vote is required. Members shall be notified of actions taken based on the discretion of the Executive Board.

Article X. Dues

Dues for membership shall be set by the Executive Board per long semester.

Article XI. Amendments

Proposed amendments to this constitution must be submitted the Executive Board for review.

Proposed amendment shall be presented to the membership to be put to vote.

A 2/3 majority of all members present will be required to ratify the proposed amendment.

Upon ratification, the amendment will become effective following approval from the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and the Office of the Dean of Students.

The amendment will be submitted to the Office of Student Diversity and Inclusion and the Office of Campus Activities and Student Organizations.

Article XII. Rules and Regulations

This organization will function in accordance with all rules and regulations of Texas State University and the Texas State University System.

Article XIII. Constitutional Supremacy

The rules and regulations established in this constitution will supersede all By-Laws.

Article XIV. Ratification

This constitution as printed goes into effect when approved by an affirmative vote of 2/3 of the membership.

Upon ratification, the amendment will become effective following approval from the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and the Office of the Dean of Students.

The amendment will be submitted to the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and the Office of Campus Activities and Student Organizations.
